Tom Watts
“Tom is married to Sue and they have two children, Elianah and Zachary. Tom was born and grew up in London in a non-Christian family. He became a Christian after starting to go to a local church youth group when he was 17, and since then the rest of his family have followed suit!
He worked briefly as a maths teacher in a comprehensive school in North London before marrying Sue and starting to train to be a vicar. He plays the trombone and the piano, likes real coffee and real ale, and is trying to enjoy swimming more than he used to.
As a child he played both Joseph and Mary in nativity plays, but not at the same time.
Sadly, the time has come for us to move to another job in the Church
of England. The role of “curate” is always limited to a few years, unlike a vicar, who can stay as long as he likes!
We will be moving at the end of August to Chesham in Buckinghamshire, which is Down South… Tom is going to be Associate Vicar at St Mary’s Church in the Great Chesham Team. It has been a fantastic experience for us here at Christ Church over the last four years (yes, it is that long). Here are some of our highlights:
Being part of a united and loving church family and making lots of friends – we plan to keep in touch!
The births of Elianah and Zachary, who will always have Crewe written on their birth certificates and passports.
For Tom, learning lots from Tim and from many others about ministry and how to lead a church.
For Sue, being able to meet up with other mums and share the joys and challenges of having young children, while also reading the Bible and praying together.
The love and support we received when Tom had his operation
last year.
Being part of a great homegroup.
Learning to eat “tea” at 5 o’clock (not “supper” at 7.30 as is done in the ignorant south).
Enjoying gravy on chips.
Never quite being able to cope with instant coffee.”
