Why read books?

There are several important reasons why Christians should read Christian books. How many of us have a really good grasp of the Bible and can confidently explain it to others. Or, as is more likely, do you find that there are large sections of the Bible which are a complete mystery?

Bible commentaries are useful, they are written by people who have taken time to study the text and pass their knowledge on. Commentaries put Bible writing into its historical, geographical and social context. They then work systematically through the text.

There may be issues that we want to understand in a clearer way. What does the Bible say about evolution, stem cell research, abortion etc? Again books have been written by people who have spent time thinking and researching these and other important topics so we can then have a clearer understanding of these issues.

Being a Christian may be a lonely experience, we might struggle to live the Christian life and become despondent. We need encouraging – why not read a biography – see how others have achieved amazing things for God.
